Early Job History
From 1981 to 1994, Mr. J. Clifford Dodd served as a crucial leader within the corporation of American Express (AMEX) in Phoenix, Arizona. Cliff Dodd’s fast paced progression of strategically important roles from large scale operations management to the delivery of precedent setting image technology resulted in the promotion to the corporate IT role of Senior Vice President of the North America Systems & Software Development department of American Express. In this IT leadership role, Cliff Dodd was charged to alter the fundamental structure of IT within AMEX, effectively changing the way in which it supported the business, instilling a new accountability and measurement system that set new standards for quality, speed, and cost effectiveness.
Achievements
Following his time at American Express, in 1994, Cliff Dodd was recruited to the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO) of telecommunication services industry leader Ameritech Services, Inc. Mr. Dodd’s recruitment to Ameritech came at a crucial time of transformation in the company’s history. At Ameritech, Mr. J. Cliff Dodd, CIO, was granted full autonomy to lead change management initiatives that would bring together disparate operations and systems into a single cohesive structure under the banner of Ameritech Services, Inc. (now AT&T), which would prove capable of supporting multiple service offerings during a period of rapid corporate expansion. The breakthrough level of change implemented by Mr. Cliff Dodd enabled Ameritech to implement a single merged billing system with dozens of advanced features enabling Ameritech to exploit markets it could not have approached previously. This was all accomplished while simultaneously reducing the overall IT expense, expressed as a percent of revenue, from 12% to just over 6%.
Kaiser Permanente
While at Kaiser Permanente, Cliff Dodd CIO, accomplished what many predecessors had failed to do by implementing an IT governance framework and standard project delivery processes – creating a predictable structure with higher quality that yielded 100% on-time delivery for 4+ years. Cliff Dodd, as a visionary CIO, positioned Kaiser Permanente and their Kaiser Foundation Health Plan as a pioneer in healthcare administration through their investment in KP HealthConnect.
